About me
In his first 20-year career, Kim was a Community Educator with schools in Juneau and Fairbanks, Alaska, Eugene, Oregon, and in Hopkins and Brooklyn Center, MN, from 1974--94. In 1994 he became self-employed as a speaker, trainer, troubadour, and coach and worked with educators and helping professionals all over the US and Canada; he "retired" in 2024 after 2 satisfying careers covering 50 years. However, in 2025, as he was cleaning out files, he came across old Community Ed. newsletters, directories, photos and other "archival" materials and wondered what he could do with them? He didn't want to discard them, yet he couldn't find an existing archive he could donate them to. After talking with other retired community educators around the country he discovered they also didn't want to throw their CE files and didn't know what to do. So -- Kim did what community educators do: He saw an unmet need, developed a plan of action, and recruited others to help reach the goal of creating a Community Ed. archive to document and preserve the history of Community Education from the early 20th century to the present. Time-wise, managing this project is the equivalent of a full-time position. Yet as Confucious said: "Chose a job you love and you never work a day in your life." Kim says he hasn't worked since he finished college in 1975. Kim is also a Board member and active Volunteer at the Ridgedale YMCA, near his home in Minnetonka, MN.
